Tri-City Elks

Neal & the Vipers with Dave Howard will be playing April 2, opening at 8:30 p.m. Cost is $6 at the door.

Trout Unlimited Meeting

The Narragansett Chapter of Trout Unlimited (TU225) will host its March monthly membership meeting March 30, starting at 6:30 p.m., at the Coventry/West Greenwich Elks Lodge, 42 Nooseneck Hill Road (Rte. 3, Exit 6 off of Rte. 95), West Greenwich. The primary focus of this meeting will be on Bob Mallard, a Maine resident, owner of Kennebec River Outfitters, the author of 25 Best Towns to Fly Fish for Trout, and a member of the Pro Staff for Winston, who will regale with stories of Maine brook trout and the lakes and ponds in which they live. This will be an exciting and informative presentation, and this meeting will be planning a fishing adventure up in The Pine Street State sometime later this year. In addition, this meeting will allow members and guests to network, tell fishing and flytying tales and other stories of interest, and discuss plans for spending time outdoors when spring finally arrives. NE Amputee Association Meeting

The New England Amputee Association monthly meeting will held March 30 from 4:15-6 p.m. at Kent County Outpatient Rehab, 1351 South County Trail, Bldg 2 Ste 200A, East Greenwich. Amputees, family members and caregivers are welcome. This month’s meeting topic is “What are the most important questions to ask your prosthetist?” This topic will enable you to improve your communication with your prosthetist. The better we communicate with our prosthetist the better the prosthetist can work with us for a good prosthetic fit.

Witness for the Prosecution

The Pilgrim Players will present Agatha Christie’s “Witness for the Prosecution” April 1 and 2 at 7 p.m. and April 3 at 2 p.m. at the Pilgrim High School auditorium. Tickets may be purchased at the door: $8 for adults, $5 for students, seniors and children under 10.

Bingo

Bingo will be held April 2 in St. Kevin’s Church hall, 333 Sandy Lane, starting and ending with a $100 special. Doors open at 5 p.m., bingo starts at 6.

to Help Homeless Cats and Dogs

Friends of the Warwick Animal Shelter will hold its 12th Annual Breakfast & Raffle April 9 from 8:30-11:30 a.m. at Norwood Baptist Church, 48 Budlong Avenue, Warwick. Enjoy an all-you-can-eat home cooked breakfast including gently scrambled eggs, french toast, crispy bacon, savory sausage, country home fries, fruit salad, coffee and juice. Take a chance on a raffle featuring a large assortment of great prizes. Tickets are available now and cost $10 each or $3 each for children under 6 years old. Conimicut Spring Fling Fundraiser

Tickets are now available for the Conimicut Village Association annual Spring Fling. The event is scheduled for April 16 at 6:30 p.m. at St. Benedict’s Parish Hall. Tickets are $24 and include dinner, dessert, music, cash bar, silent auctions, raffles and door prizes. All funds pay for the flowers and flags that line West Shore Road in Conimicut Village from May through September. Justice Book Group

The Warwick Progressive Democrats will be having a book discussion April 28 at 6 p.m. in the small room at the Warwick Public Library. The book for conversation is Shock Doctrine by Naomi Klein. Everyone is welcome to attend. This book can be checked out from the Reference Desk at the main Warwick library. This group usually meets every fourth Thursday of the month.

Stop, Drop & Bowl For Burns

The Providence Firefighters Burn Foundation 501(c)(3) will be hosting their 2nd annual Bowling Tournament May 22 at Lang’s Bowlarama in Cranston. The cost to participate in the event is $35, which includes shoe rental, three games of bowling, a t-shirt and two drink tickets. Also, they will be having raffles and silent auctions. All proceeds raised at this event will benefit the local Arthur C. Luf’s Children’s Burn Camp. Teams of six are preferred. Come out and support a great cause while having fun. Old Warwick Grange #41

The Grange is a fraternal non-profit organization with a special interest in community service. All in a Chord

All in a Chord (AIAC), the barbershop chorus of women from all over Rhode Island, is seeking to recruit women 18 years old and older who love to sing. Unlike some choruses, AIAC does not do competition, or buy expensive costumes. There are low monthly dues to meet expenses. AIAC is a friendly group of 25 women that loves to sing and entertain. AIAC sings at social events, senior centers, libraries, birthday parties, PawSox games, etc. Members do not need to know how to read music, but only be able to carry a tune on key. Moms for Moms

Support a new mother, share your experience and make a new friend. You can make a difference with just one hour a week. Moms for Moms/Families First RI helps pregnant women and new mothers deal with an enormous transition by matching them with trained volunteers who are mothers themselves. The program provides emotional and social support and strives to connect new moms to resources within their own communities. Mentors develop a warm, supportive relationship while spending time with the new mom in their homes, accompanying them on outings and attending mom gatherings. Fife and Drum Corps

The Kentish Guards Fife and Drum Corps rehearses on Wednesday evenings from 7-9 p.m. at the Kentish Guards Armory on Pierce St. in East Greenwich. Free lessons on playing the fife are provided to men and young men interested in joining the corps.

Volunteers Needed to Sew

Looking for something to do to help foster kids? Organizers of The Sewing Project to Help Foster Kids are looking for volunteers who want to help sew pillowcase or duffel bags for foster children. Currently their belongings are sometimes put in black trash bags. Foster parent Adriane Grimaldi in Scottsdale, Ariz. started the Sewing Project in February 2008 for children taken from their homes by Child Protective Services (CPS) to make kid-friendly bags for carrying their belongings instead of trash bags. To date, people have made 6,700 pillowcase bags for foster kids Pillowcase bags are delivered to CPS to use instead of trash bags. The Sewing Project has opened a new Rhode Island Chapter working with the Department of Children, Youth and Families (DCYF) and is in need of volunteers to sew. Domestic Abuse Support Groups

The Elizabeth Buffum Chace Center is a non-profit agency providing services to victims of domestic abuse and sexual assault. The agency offers morning and evening support groups for adults dealing with current or past domestic abuse Groups provide a safe place to talk with others who have shared similar experiences. The groups are confidential and free of charge. For more information call Jessica at 738-1700.

Free Health Care

Our Lady of Fatima Hospital has an outreach coordinator to assist women in getting free health care If you are between the ages of 40-64 and are underserved or uninsured, call Maria at 456-3105 for a confidential assessment. You may be eligible for free care including mammogram and gynecological care.

Developmental Screening

The Child Outreach Department of the Warwick Public Schools, in cooperation with the Volunteers of Warwick schools (VOWS), conducts regular preschool screening clinics. All Warwick preschool children between the ages of 3 and 5 are offered the Early Screening Inventory-Revised (ESI-R). This is a free service provided by the Warwick Public Schools. Participation in a Developmental Screening is a long established program of the Warwick School Department that provides families with information about their child’s development and offers information about community resources.
