(Disney classic)
Disney brings the classic fairy tale to the big screen with all of its romance, adventure and glory. Unlike the current stage musical and cartoon feature, this Cinderella sticks pretty close to the original story, tweaking it a bit and adding a wonderful family of mice.
We get a bit more background on how Ella ended up with her wicked stepmother (Cate Blanchett) and two nasty stepsisters, and how she had “Cinder” added to “Ella.”
The young ladies in the matinee performance clapped at the end, walking out with smiling faces. Mothers had to console the very young daughters when three of the characters went off to Disney heaven.
Except for the deaths, Cinderella is a very upbeat movie about dreams coming true and forgiving those who have wronged you. The movie is aided by some wonderful background music, bright, colorful scenes and that entertaining family of mice.
Lily James makes a sweet, innocent, caring Cinderella, while Richard Madden is a handsome, gallant prince.
Cinderella’s mother has left her with words of wisdom and encouragement: Have courage, and be kind. The movie follows those two themes from beginning to end, making it the type of movie that is rarely made.
We were a bit bored at times with the familiar tale, but made up for it listening to the beautiful score and enjoying the costumes, background and quality acting.
Rated PG. It could have been a G.
