Candidate outlines Ward 3 issues

To the Editor:

I am a candidate for Warwick City Council Ward 3. As I walk and talk with the citizens of the ward, a number of questions and concerns were expressed concerning Councilwoman Camille Vella-Wilkinson. Here is a small sample of their concerns.

A number of concerns are in regards to the Winslow Park playing fields being relocated to the Lakeshore Drive area. Citizens are concerned with the fields being within close proximity of an active runway, by some accounts approximately 150 yards. They have expressed concerns of the health aspects associated with jet exhaust fumes and possible soil contamination. Their concerns are for the children participating on the fields, the parents and guests as well as the health and well being of pregnant women. They are also concerned that not all the testing/monitoring required is being conducted in accordance to laws and regulations.

Ward 3 Councilwoman Camille Vella-Wilkinson spearheaded negotiations for the airport agreement.

Another concern citizens have is why Catherine King Avila, who is not a CPA and does not have a master’s degree in business administration, was awarded a $30K per year part-time position as an auditor. Councilwoman Vella-Wilkinson selected and supported this selection. She did so, along with Council President Donna Travis, without the approval of the full council approval.

The condition of the roads seems to be a common concern. The drivers of Ward 3 express disappointment with the conditions of many roads. Several have talked about tire and vehicle damage as a direct result of potholes and the poor roads. It is incumbent on our council to ensure roads are safe and in good working order. Only $450,000 is allocated for road repairs from an operating budget of $289 million. As Council Finance Chair, Vella-Wilkinson failed to get a $5 million bond for road repairs on this year’s ballot, which was approved unanimously by the City Council.

At the end of the day, people expect some fundamental services: prompt snow removal, trash removal, police and fire services and roads that are safe and in conditions that protect them and their vehicles. It is the responsibility of our elected officials to ensure these and other services are rendered efficiently and in a cost-effective manner. If you are not receiving the services you know we all deserve, you have the ability to do something. You can use your vote on November 4 to make a change.

I will work for the citizens of Ward 3 and Warwick. As a business owner, it is my responsibility to run my businesses as efficiently and productively as possible. I will bring this same dedication and awareness to the City Council. I will conduct “Town Hall Meetings” with each precinct during the year to allow citizens to express questions and/or concerns. I will be available to respond to your phone calls and e-mails.

I respectfully ask for your support on November 4. My name is John M. Falkowski, and I would be honored to represent you at City Hall. Thank you.

John M. Falkowski

Candidate for Warwick City Council

Ward 3

I agree with his outline of the failings of Ms. Vella Wilkinson....they are many.....but you can't capture the seat by putting up a few campaign signs and not walking the ward.

Falkowski is the best kept secret in Ward 3.

Thank you Mr. Falkowski. It is about time that we have an individual that understands that the residents are unhappy with their representation and the fundamental issues that they face on a daily basis. I am pleased to see that you are a small business owner and that to stay afloat you must operate in the most efficient manner possible. It has been far too long since we have had that mindset on the Warwick City Council.

With Ms. Wilkinson her vote representing the residents of ward 3 have been, increase property taxes 4 years in a row, increase car taxes, vote in favor of non contractual raises for the unions, maintain silence on the 860 million in unfunded liabilities, pander to special interest, hire friends without credentials, raise discussions for months about how many chickens one can own, and ignore the health and safety of our children by putting them at risk.

Not withstanding the fact that when the airport seizes property, the city looses tax revenue. Mis Wilkinson ignored the pleas of her constituents to negotiate that RIAC reimburse the city for loss of tax revenue due to CONFISCATION OF LAND AND CITY REVENUE!

I hope the residents are listening as Ms Wilkinson is dangerous for the future of Warwick.
