The Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency has issued a preliminary Flood Insurance Rate Map (FIRM) and, where applicable, Flood Insurance Study (FIS) report for coastal areas of Kent County. These draft flood maps include portions of Warwick, primarily the area along the Pawtuxet River.
The flood hazard determinations are the basis for the floodplain management measures that the city is required to either adopt or show evidence of being already in effect to qualify or remain qualified for participation in the National Flood Insurance Program.
Beginning Oct. 16 residents have a 90-day period to review, comment and appeal the proposed flood hazard determinations.
Copies of the draft maps are available for review Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. in the Warwick Building Department, City Hall Annex, 2nd Floor, 3275 Post Road, Warwick, RI or online at the FEMA Map Service Center (www.msc.fema.
gov) or at www.warwickri.gov.
