Florence E. Scott, 88, formerly of Lincoln Avenue, who died Sunday, November 27, 2016 at home, was for 53 years the beloved wife of the late George L. Scott Jr.

Born in Providence, a daughter of the late Herbert and Florida (Plante) West, she graduated from Cranston High School and lived in Warwick most of her life. She worked for 40 years at New England Telephone & Telegraph Company. Beginning as a switchboard operator she moved through the ranks and retired in 1986 as a maintenance administrator in drafting. Upon her retirement she worked with her husband as an assistant in Scott's Lock & Service. Together they were instrumental in forming the Yankee Security Association representing locksmiths from around New England. A lifelong Episcopalian, she worked part-time as Parish Secretary at St. Mark's Church, Warwick retiring in January 2010. With her husband she would conduct blood pressure clinics for the American Heart Association and make visitations to the Shriners Hospital for Children, Springfield, MA.

She was a Docent at Roger Williams Park Zoo for over 23 years, still serving two weeks ago. She was a volunteer for the Edgewood-Pawtuxet Ecumenical Food Closet & Thrift Shop. She was a member of Mended Hearts, serving at Miriam Hospital; the Telephone Pioneers; the Rhode Island Shriner's Artisans Unit Ladies Auxiliary and a Special Lady of Rising Sun Lodge F&AM. She was a past Esteem Praetor of Cranston Rainbow Alumnae and a past Grand Esteem Praetor of Rainbow Alumnae of Rhode Island. She served as Worthy Matron of Sincerity Chapter #24 and Adah Chapter #15, Order of the Eastern Star. She was a member of the Grand Cross of Color.

She is survived by two children: Susan G. Ursillo, with whom she lived and Donald G. Scott (wife Diane) of Warwick; two brothers: Ralph West of Naples, FL and Robert West of Vero Beach, FL; one sister: Rena Gillissee of Warwick; five grandchildren: Tracey MacDonald (husband Ronald), Pamela Lowell (husband Dave), Matthew Ursillo (wife Erin), Adam Scott (wife Amanda) and Brian Scott; and eight great-grandchildren: Meghan MacDonald, Jacob Scott, Luke Ursillo, Christopher MacDonald, Isaac Scott, Zachary Ursillo, Violet Lowell and Levi Lowell. She was the sister of the late Charlotte Horan, Jean York, Dorothy Spencer and Herbert West, Jr.

Calling hours will be held on Thursday, December 1 from 3:00 - 7:00 p.m. at Carpenter-Jenks Funeral Home & Crematory, 659 East Greenwich Avenue, West Warwick. Her funeral service will be held on Friday, December 2 at 10 a.m. at the Episcopal Church of the Transfiguration, 1665 Broad Street, Cranston. Burial will be in Highland Memorial Park, Johnston.
