Gasoline prices in Rhode Island are down seven cents this week, and are at the lowest point locally since late April, according to AAA Northeast.

AAA’s August 9 survey of prices in Rhode Island finds self-serve, regular unleaded averaging $2.13 per gallon. Rhode Island’s price is one cent above the national average of $2.12. A year ago at this time, the average price in Rhode Island was 46 cents higher at $2.59.

“You have to go all the way back to 2004 to find prices this low at this point in the summer,” said Lloyd Albert, Senior Vice President of Public and Government Affairs for AAA Northeast. “With gasoline supplies high and oil prices low, pump prices are likely to remain relatively cheap through the remainder of the summer and into the fall.”

The range in prices in the latest AAA survey for unleaded regular is 36 cents, from a low of $1.94 to a high of $2.30. AAA advises motorists to shop around for the best prices in their area, and to make sure they and their passengers buckle up, every time.
