Gasoline prices in Rhode Island continue to slide, down four cents from last week, and have fallen every week since early July, according to AAA Northeast.
AAA’s September 28 survey of prices in Rhode Island found self-serve, regular unleaded averaging $2.21 per gallon, down four cents from last week. Prices locally are 17 cents lower than a month ago. The current price is eight cents less than the national average for regular unleaded of $2.29. A year ago at this time Rhode Island’s average price was $1.20 higher at $3.41.
“The last time prices were this low, hardly anyone noticed, as we were in the middle of the record snowfalls of February,” said Lloyd Albert, Senior Vice President of Public and Government Affairs for AAA Northeast. “Motorists continue to benefit from strong supplies and lessening demand, with some local stations even approaching the $2.00 per gallon mark.”
The range in prices in the latest local AAA survey for unleaded regular is 31 cents, from a low of $2.04 to a high of $2.35. AAA advises motorists to shop around for the best prices in their area, and to make sure they and their passengers buckle up- every trip, every time.
