Getting ‘Up Close’ on Hope

There is nothing like being Up Close. Front row seats for a Broadway musical. The 50-yard line for a Patriots game. Any seat in the house for a performance of Festival Ballet’s “Up Close On Hope.”

The popular ballet series is back in the Black Box Theatre, their actual rehearsal space, at the ballet’s home at 825 Hope St. on Providence’s East Side.

“Program 1 offers the chance to see one of legendary choreographer George Balanchine’s most sought-after ballets: Apollo,” said Artistic Director Mihailo Djuric.

The ballet depicts the young god as he is inspired into adulthood by the muses of poetry, mime and dance. The legendary role will be danced by leading dancer Mindaugas Bauzys, who will retire from the stage at the conclusion of the 2015-2016 season.

The program will also feature live music from Community Music Works in a new collaboration titled “Bach Suites.”

Performances are Fridays, November 13 and 20 at 8 p.m., Saturdays, November 14 and 21 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, November 22 at 6 p.m. Each performance includes a reception at intermission with complimentary wine and hors d’oeuvres. Tickets are $50. There are only 85 seats, and they usually are all filled. Call 353-1129.
