Governor Gina Raimondo, along with First Gentleman Andy Moffit, will host a Holiday Celebration and Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony Thursday, Dec. 3 at the Rhode Island State House.
The event is open to all Rhode Islanders and their families and will feature performances from the Governor’s Own 88th Army Band, among others. There will be an opportunity to take photos with Santa. People are encouraged to bring cameras. The event starts at 5:30. The tree lighting is at 6:15.
“While we are facing many challenges as a state, this is a time to come together with loved ones and reflect on all we have to be grateful for,” Raimondo said in a statement. “My family wishes all Rhode Islanders a happy, healthy and peaceful holiday season.”
“Given the hustle and bustle that often marks the holidays, we wanted to take a moment to come together, as families and a community, to celebrate the season,” First Gentleman Andy Moffit said.
The 16-foot balsam tree was donated from Greene Tree Farm and Nursery, part of the RI Tree Growers Association and owned by Ted and Michelle Pezzelli in Greene, R.I.
This gathering will also mark the season of giving. The governor will use the hashtag #RISeasonofGiving in relation to this event. Those planning to attend are asked to consider bringing an unwrapped toy for Toys for Tots.
