Sometimes the last people you would expect to play baseball have great baseball careers. Join librarian and film connoisseur Jen Eibel for a look at three improbable-but-true baseball pictures at Warwick Public Library on Thursdays, April 21 and 28 and May 5 at 7 p.m.
On April 21, root for A League of Their Own (1992), starring Geena Davis, Lori Petty and Tom Hanks. Sisters Dottie and Kit join the newly made All-American Girls’ Professional Baseball League and travel the country during World War II.
On April 28, cheer The Rookie (2002), starring Dennis Quaid and Rachel Griffiths. A 39-year-old high school teacher joins a major league ball club when he discovers he can still throw 100 mile-per-hour pitches.
On May 5, celebrate 42 (2013), starring Chadwick Boseman and Harrison Ford. Brooklyn Dodgers general manager Branch Rickey signs Jackie Robinson as the first black major league player in 1945.
