The Tri-City Elks Lodge No. 14, on West Shore Road, is about to rewrite its tradition-rich history.

On Saturday night the Tri-City Elks will host national musical icon and legendary blues singer James Montgomery, beginning at 8:30 p.m.

But the event will be much more than people enjoying a few cocktails or beers and listening to Montgomery belt out his high-energy blues.

“We are proud – and certainly excited – to have James Montgomery coming here to our lodge,” said Donna Warner, Lodge No. 14’s current exalted ruler. “This is a special CD release party that promises to be quite interesting – in a number of areas.”

Warner said doors will open at 7 and tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the door.

“This is the James Montgomery Band’s first CD in 10 years,” said John Ippolito, booking agent for the musical group. “There’s lots of excitement about the CD ... the early reviews have been fantastic. It debuted on the Blues Charts at No. 25 the week of the release in America and its selling worldwide charting at No. 9 on the Blues Charts in Australia.”

While the band is currently playing a series of CD release parties throughout New England, Saturday night’s event will mark the first time that Rhode Islanders will have an opportunity to hear the release, entitled “From Detroit to the Delta.”

“We are really looking forward to Saturday night,” Warner said. “James [Montgomery] seems like such a nice, nice man. I personally hope this party is a huge success for James and his band.”

The James Montgomery Band includes George McGann on guitar, David Hull on bass, Seth Pappas on drums and the legend himself, James Montgomery, who is from Detroit, Mich.

The CD features some of the best names in blues, rock and hip hop, including Johnny Winter and Joey Kramer and Brad Whitford from Aerosmith, the group that used to open for the James Montgomery Band. Music by blues legend James Cotton, the Uptown Horns (J. Geils Band, Rolling Stones), Charise White and D.M.C. from Run-D.M.C. are also featured on the CD.

“People are saying this is the best release ever from the James Montgomery Band,” said Ippolito, who lives in Hyannis. “All the guest artists put in stellar performances, such as Johnny Winter’s amazing slide guitar work backed up by two Aerosmith members and D.M.C.’s free-style rap interpretation of Bo Didley’s ‘Who Do You Love.’”

“This promises to be a very special night at our lodge,” said Peter Dodge, who serves as house committee chairman at the Tri-City Elks Lodge No. 14. “It should be a blast. I’ve never had an opportunity to hear the James Montgomery Band. And to think that will happen here in Warwick Saturday night. It’s special, for sure!”

Ippolito said the James Montgomery Band will play all of the songs from the CD and personally sign all copies that people might want to purchase.
