Lady ’Canes win two more, remain atop D-II

The Warwick Vets girls’ soccer team is loving life in Division II. The ’Canes won both their games last week, and are now off to a 6-1 start. They defeated perennial contender Mount St. Charles 1-0 on Tuesday and then defeated East Providence 3-0 on Thursday.

Nicole Luiz, Sloan Kinney and Kat Raposo all scored against the Townies, while Emily Almonte added an assist. In net, Katelen Pick made five saves to earn the shutout.

With 18 points, the ’Canes are leading Division II, although they are technically still behind Lincoln and Pilgrim, both of which have played one fewer game than Vets and are still unbeaten at 5-0-1.

Vets’ only loss on the season was a 3-2 defeat to Scituate on Sept. 19.

The ’Canes should have a good opportunity to add to their win total on Thursday, when they travel to 1-2-3 Tiverton for a 4 p.m. game. After that, Vets plays Johnston and Narragansett before a showdown with Pilgrim on Oct. 15.
