The 3rd District Disabled American Veterans presented outstanding awards to key people at its three-day convention held last week at the Crowne Plaza. Henry Wright, Department of Rhode Island DAV commander, made the presentations. From left with Wright and Susan MacKenzie, director of the medical center in Providence, are the honorees: Nancy Catalan, RN, with the eye clinic in Providence, outstanding nurse; Carl Hytinen, volunteer of the year who in eight years has volunteered 6,100 hours to help the visually impaired; Wright; Travis Hess, outstanding support person at the neutromoduction clinic; Dr. Monty VanBeber, outstanding physician with the US Department of Veterans Affairs and MacKenzie.
