Public invited to Kent Center, YMCA summer celebration

The Kent Center and the Kent County YMCA will host a joint event Wednesday at YMCA’s Warwick location at 900 Centreville Road from 6 to 8 p.m. Attendees will enjoy hamburgers, hotdogs, and other barbecue fare while cooling off in the YMCA’s Spray Park.

“We are delighted to celebrate our ongoing partnership with the YMCA during this annual event,” said David S. Lauterbach, ACSW, President and CEO of The Kent Center in a statement. “Working together has resulted in significant changes in our clients’ health including weight loss, decreased cholesterol levels, and increased levels of self-esteem. Our partnership with the Y is in direct alignment with our holistic approach to care that treats the person, not the illness.”

Representatives from the YMCA of Greater Providence will share success stories about once shy clients who now serve as “Ambassadors of the Y”. Attendees will also include TKC staff, board members, clients, and their families.

The event is open to the public, with a suggested donation of $5 per person and $20 for families. All proceeds will be used to sponsor YMCA memberships for The Kent Center’s clients.

Established in 1976, The Kent Center (TKC) provides comprehensive behavioral healthcare programs and services to over 2,700 children, adolescents, adults, and seniors in Rhode Island. The team is committed to improving clients’ quality of life through an extensive range of community-based and outpatient mental health, substance abuse, and educational services that are recovery-oriented, trauma-informed, and family-focused. TKC is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation .
