As it has done in recent years, Woodbury Union Church Presbyterian participated in the Buy Nothing Day Winter Coat Exchange held on Black Friday. Church members Robert Davidson and Jane Tarring coordinated the event, collecting more than 250 coats. Scarves, gloves and hats were also given away. More than 40 people took advantage of the exchange with some even leaving the coat they were wearing in exchange for one they preferred. Donations of coats came from parishioners as well as Friends Way with offices across from the church in the center of Conimicut Village. The Buy Nothing Day Winter Coat Exchange was started by the state’s Green Party in 1997 and has been run by Greg Gerritt since then. At the end of the exchange, items not spoken for were donated to Westbay Community Action and other nonprofits reaching people in need.
