Many Job Lot stores across the state are bearing banners thanking customers for their support of Honor Flights organized by the Rhode Island Association of Fire Chiefs’ Honor Flight. With customer donations and matching funds from the company, more than 120 World War II veterans and their guardians from Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Connecticut and New York were flown to Washington to visit the World War II memorial last month. Joining Warwick firefighters at the Buttonwoods West Shore Road, who were there to help erect the banner, was 103-year old World War II veteran Jerry Latham of Warwick, Steve Hay who served as his guardian, and Fire Chief Edmund Armstrong. Latham’s daughter, Nancy Cornish, recorded the moment and Warwick firefighters Lt. Barry Lafleur and Pvt. Joseph D’Antonio give their “thumbs up” with the banner.
