Two Warwick schools claimed state championships on Saturday, as the Toll Gate unified basketball team won the Division III title and the Pilgrim team won the Division V title.
Playing at neutral site La Salle, the Titans defeated Middletown 36-34 to win the top prize and complete an undefeated season. In the semifinals, they got by Woonsocket.
The Pats beat North Providence 38-31 in the title game, the culmination of quite a postseason run. They also beat Ponaganset in the quarterfinals then North Smithfield in the semifinals. (Warwick Beacon photos by Jerry Silberman / risportsphoto.com)
