In honor of Earth Day, Roger Williams Park Zoo hosts Party for the Planet, a full week of fun for families to share, presented by National Grid. This year’s event will celebrate the rich and vibrant cultures of different areas represented in the Zoo, and the animals that live there. The event will run from April 18-22, which is school vacation week for many students in Rhode Island, Massachusetts and Connecticut. The emphasis will be on activities, demonstrations and performances that kids and their parents will enjoy. 

Each day of the week, guests will explore a different region of the world at Roger Williams Park Zoo. On Monday, visit the Fabric of Africa to hear traditional African folk tales, and enjoy a drumming workshop; Tuesday celebrates Tropical America with authentic Incan music, and Caribbean steel drummers; Wednesday celebrates Australasia with a dance class, and a special didgeridoo performance; the Zoo offers fun native North American activities and performances on Thursday; and Friday, Earth Day, features an environmental fair with eco-friendly New England organizations offering displays, activities and giveaways.  

Every day, people will also enjoy fun animal encounters with the Zoo’s education wild animal ambassadors, entertainment, games, and music, as well as special “Keeper Talks” to learn more from the zookeepers about exhibit animals in each featured region. Party for the Planet activities run from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day and are free with Zoo admission. For more information about this event visit rwpzoo.org. 

Roger Williams Park Zoo is open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. April through September and until 4 p.m. in the off-season. Last admission is 30 minutes before closing. Admission is $14.95 for adults, $9.95 for children (ages 2-12) and $12.95 for seniors (ages 62+); toddlers age one and younger and zoo members get in free.
