Oakland Beach was lined with those looking to soak up the sun and cool off in the water in yesterday's 90-degree temps.
X MARKS THE SPOT: Samantha Allen, 9, and Dominic Robbio, 6, said they were digging for “buried treasure” at Oakland Beach yesterday. Armed with scoops and buckets, Samantha said they managed to find some interesting rocks.
PICNIC IN THE PARK: Kim Williams, at left, decided to take the trip from Providence to Oakland Beach with Maria Lopes and Don’eshia Johnson, age 5. The women said they had packed a lunch and planned to stay for most of the day. Don’eshia had just returned from the water, where her companions, Derrick, Jeffrey and Jordan, played.
SPLISH SPLASH: The entire clan decided to take a dip during their day at the beach. From left, David and Shawn Reynolds stand next to mom, Desiree, who holds baby sister, Destiny. At far right is their other brother, Ryan. Kaliyae Brown gives a wave to the camera, as Jackie Rego ensures everyone stays afloat.
Dozens of people packed their blankets and picnic lunches and headed to Oakland Beach to beat the heat. Three lifeguards watched over beachgoers clad in bright bikinis and board shorts. Though some sat to catch rays, the most popular activity seemed to be taking a dunk in the cool water. (Warwick Beacon photos by Kim Kalunian)
