There aren’t many movies more fitting for 185 different children with “A Wish Come True” to see than “Wish”- something that they got to do on Dec. 3 at Cinema De Lux.

A Wish Come True, Inc. is a Coventry-based organization that grants wishes and provides resources to families that have a child struggling with a life-threatening illness living in Rhode Island and Massachusetts.

Al Cerrone, one of the event’s sponsors, said that being able to support A Wish Come True was “not a business decision, [but] a pleasure.”

“It’s a privilege, but more importantly, it’s an honor,” Cerrone said. “I ask all of my business colleagues to consider sponsoring an event for this worthwhile organization. Unlike other events, you will get to witness, firsthand, the happiness that your donation is bringing into these families’ lives.”
Al’s daughter Katie, another event sponsor, said that she sympathized with the daily stresses of the parents of Wish Kids, and was glad to help take some stress off their plates by offering dinner at her restaurants. Katie Cerrone is the owner of KC Burgers in North Attleboro and Mack’s Pizza Pub in Seekonk.

A Wish Come True Executive Director Mary-Kate O’Leary applauded the Cerrones for helping the children her organization serves, calling them “great partners” and role models.

“To see Wish families have a night out and not have to worry about buying food and presents is priceless,” O’Leary said. “Katie and Al are role models for other businesses on how small things can go a long way in making a difference.”
“A Wish Come True” will hold their 20th annual Polar Plunge on Jan. 1at Easton’s Beach in Newport at noon, with Massey and Associates, Inc. as the event’s sponsor. Some of the event proceeds will go towards helping Sophia, a Wish Kid from Warwick looking to visit Disney World.
