The Ocean State Center for Independent Living (OSCIL) is hosting a Lunch and Learn Workshop on Thursday, August 31 from 12-2 p.m. at OSCIL’s Pawtucket office at 175 Main Street.
In honor of the 27th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act, the Rhode Island Governor’s Commission on Disabilities is offering a series of trainings entitled “The ADA: 27 Years Later.” This is a follow-up to the “ADA: Know Your Rights” training that we offered two years ago. In addition to an overview of the five titles of the ADA (employment, state and local government, public accommodations, telecommunications, and miscellaneous), also discussed will be some of the changes and clarifications that have been made to the ADA over the last five years. For example, the EEOC has been involved in a series of cases defining the role of the employer with regards to proving an accommodation for multiple chemical sensitivity. Other topics discussed will include website accessibility and accessible transportation. The goal of this workshop is to provide an opportunity for the community to learn about the ADA, and to understand the protections afforded for individuals with disabilities under federal law. Presenter: Alyssa Gleason of the Rhode Island Governor’s Commission on Disabilities.
As part of OSCIL’s outreach and community education initiative, OSCIL offers these free “Lunch and Learn” workshops highlighting various solutions that can increase access in your home and community.
Advance registration is required. Please call 738-1013 if you plan to attend either session. Seating is Limited. Lunch (pizza) will be served. A sign language interpreter and CART have been secured for this event.
