Alsfeld, Roy Cartier

Posted

Roy Cartier Alsfeld passed away Oct, 14.  He was the son of Richard J. and Violet (Cartier) Alsfeld. Roy and Carolyn (Webster) Alsfeld had been married 64 years, living most of their time in RI, then moving to sunny FL for the last 16 years. They loved all the dogs they had in their lives. Shakira, a dog from the mountains of Mexico, still lives with Carolyn.

Roy had two daughters and a son, Kathi (Phil) Marshall, Lori (Toby) Lucero and Tim (Sheri) Alsfeld.  Roy’s grandchildren are Tom (Vicky) Baker, Billy (Margaret) Cartier, Melanie Baker (James Schott), Mark Alsfeld, Adam and Andrew (Jenny) Carroll, Jesse Alsfeld (Ariana Ocampo) and Crystal Alsfeld (Joshua Kennedy), Preston and Shaylah Lucero (Taylor Dean). Great -Grandchildren are Gabriel, Ryland “RJ”, Mathew and Sophie Baker, Mia and Ella Cartier, Addison Alsfeld, Jackson and Austin Kennedy, Gavin Ocampo, Tori Alsfeld, Aspen Alsfeld and Lydia Carroll, Kayden and Kinsley-Rae Dean.  He is also survived by his sister, Lois, and nephew Rick (Mic) Pimental.

Roy loved his family but didn’t always show it.  Roy would be the first to help a neighbor or stranger in need.  Roy was compassionate, and very driven.  He had an astounding work ethic.  He was proud to have the nicest yard in the neighborhood. He was proud that all his vehicles were red.  He painted all the handles on his tools red.  He was also a lifetime member of the Warwick Elks lodge.

Roy lived nearly 85 years, enjoying life his way.  From driving his father’s convertible Thunderbird in the late 50’s, to driving boats on the lake his parents lived on, to driving boats in Narragansett Bay, to snowmobiles, to buses, to campers, he enjoyed being daring and living for thrills. Roy also loved family reunions in Wickford, RI.  After moving to FL, Roy started collecting and driving around tractors in his “back 40.”  It was one of his joys in life.

Always the character, Roy had the nurses laughing in the hospital.  He formed a strong bond with some of his caretakers in Shoal Creek Rehab, especially Andrew, Douglas, and Mousafa.  He always loved sharing a joke with Jessica. He also looked forward to his Sunday chats with his buddy Wally Carroll.

A private family gathering will be scheduled at a future date.

Words of encouragement and stories of Roy are welcomed by Carolyn Alsfeld at PO Box 752, Baker, FL 32531.
