The Pawtuxet Athletic Club Tournament Committee members extend their sincerest thanks to the supporters and sponsors of the 12th annual Jay Shaw and Everett Souza Memorial Fishing Tournament, which culminated on June 2 at the Pawtuxet Athletic Club.

The tournament was organized as a tribute to the memory of two departed members of the club, Jay Shaw and Everett Souza, who found a common bond and friendship in fishing despite being decades apart in age.

With the community’s participation, the tournament exceeded its goal, raising money to bring joy and laughter into the lives of children who cope with the pain and uncertainty of a life-threatening illness. A Wish Come True was the recipient of the money raised this year, and a check was presented to executive director Mary-Kate O’Leary and fundraising development associate Amy Conlan for $8,000.

The continued success of the annual event is due to the PAC members, friends and many local businesses that have generously provided funds, food and prizes to the tournament.

Special recognition and appreciation goes to Pettis Boat Yard, O’Rourke’s Bar & Grill, and JSA (Jewelers Shipping Association) for their continued generous support.

The finale on June 2 consisted of live entertainment from PAC member John Capuano and his fellow bandmates, many great prizes, gift basket raffles, as well as hot dogs, hamburgers, pizza and delicious desserts.

Over the last 12 years, the tournament has donated more than $100,000 to help local Rhode Island charities.
