Art Club makes ‘Colors Dance’ at Warwick Center for the Arts

Posted

A rainbow of colors dancing across the walls of the Warwick Center for the Arts can be seen all throughout the month of June.

The “Colors Dance” art exhibit by the East Greenwich Art Club, is made up of about 40 pieces, all of different topics and materials. The exhibit includes photography, oil paintings, acrylic paintings, multimedia pieces, and watercolor.

“The art is whatever mediums and subject matters that the artists prefer,” said Beverly Smith, program organizer of the club and member since 1998. “It is all up to the artist’s judgment.”

The East Greenwich Art Club, which is made up of mostly middle-aged and older individuals is open to anyone who wishes to join. The club is one of the oldest art clubs in Rhode Island and was founded in 1959. It is open to anyone regardless of where they live in the state. The club has meetings on the first Tuesday of every month at the First Baptist Church Hall located at 30 Peirce St. in East Greenwich.

“I’ve met an awful lot of nice people, and we all help one another and share our experiences and tribulations,” said Jeanine Anderson, organizer of art shows for the club.

Club members pay $35 each year and can have their artwork shown in the art shows. People of all ages are welcome especially students. Students pay $5 each year to be in the club.

The club also offers a $1,000 scholarship each year to a senior at East Greenwich High School who plans to further their art education after graduating. More information can be found on the club’s website, www.eastgreenwichartclub.org.

The “Colors Dance” exhibit can be seen Wednesday through Saturday at the Warwick Center for the Arts until July 5. On June 7 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. there will be a reception for the show, which is open to the public, and admission is free. Artists will be at the reception to present and explain their work, and food will be supplied as well.
