Barbara E. (Upham) Plumb, 96, died peacefully on Thursday, September 7, 2017. She was the beloved wife of the late Charles C. Plumb Jr. for sixty-six years.

Born in Providence, the daughter of the late Murray S. and Eleanor A. (Cheever) Upham, she lived most of her life in Edgewood, RI and the last four years in Warwick. She was a determined competitor who was an avid sailor and an Honorary Life member of the Edgewood Yacht Club where she was a Beetle Cat Wet Hens Champion for six consecutive years. She was also a member and former Treasurer of the Edgewood Yacht Club Ladies Auxiliary. She was an expert skier at Thorn Mountain in New Hampshire and for thirty-five years a 5:30 a.m. daily “Mermaid Swimmer” at McDermott Pool in Warwick. She was a life member and past president of the Greater Providence Women’s Bowling Association and a life member of the Women’s International Bowling Congress. She was an inductee in the first class of the RI USBC Bowling Association Hall of Fame. She was a lifelong parishioner of Trinity Episcopal Church, Pawtuxet where she served as an usher and as a counter. She loved to knit, crochet and was a member of the Church’s Prayers and Squares Quilting Group. She was a former Girl Scout Leader who served as Neighborhood Chairman and as a member of the State Board of Directors. She was a former Choir Mother at St. Dunstan’s School. In her professional life she was a bookkeeper and financial assistant. Barbara will be most remembered for her loving devotion to her family, for her knit sweaters, M&M’s and love of animals.

She is survived by three children: Charles C. Plumb III (wife the late Elaine), Patricia E. Baetzel (husband the late George) and William F. Plumb (wife Nancy); eight grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren. She was predeceased by a great grandchild and by her brother, Leonard C. Upham.

Relatives and friends are invited to a memorial service in Trinity Episcopal Church, 139 Ocean Avenue, Cranston on Saturday, September 16, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. Calling hours omitted.
