Warwick Mayor Scott Avedisian, running for his eighth term as mayor, has announced a leadership team that blends veteran campaigners with some new faces in his political organization.
Leading off the list is Christine Allen, who will serve as the campaign manager. A resident of the Mill Cove area of the city, Allen has long been a Warwick resident who is a small businesswoman, an artisan and a grandmother of two. She has been active in the Central Rhode Island Chamber of Commerce, the Warwick Republican City Committee and other groups.
Senior Campaign Advisor Janet Russell has been part of the Avedisian political organization since his first days as a candidate for the Warwick City Council. She has been the campaign manager for all of his mayoral campaigns from 2000 through 2010. A little more than a year ago, Russell and her husband, Mark, opened McBride’s Pub in Wayland Square on the East Side of Providence. McBride’s was recently named Best Irish Pub in the Rhode Island Monthly Reader’s poll. Due to the nature of her new business venture, she will not be campaign manager but will advise the campaign on issues and assist with special events.
Edward Tavares will continue in his role as campaign finance chairman. Tavares is also a veteran of past Avedisian campaigns. He is active in the Warwick Rotary Club, the Warwick Republican City Committee and various professional and fundraising organizations.
Members of the Finance Committee are Armeny Apkarian, President, Armeny Inc.; Robert H. Breslin Jr., Esquire, Partner, Sullivan & Sullivan, PC; Anthony W. Bucci, Jr., President, A.W. Bucci Associates, Inc.; Thomas P. Clarkin, owner, Clarkin Corporation; Hon. Steven A. Colantuono, Ward 1 City Council member; Robert E.
