LETTER: 'DEI is a perversion of Dr. King’s dream'

To the Editor:

The Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was a man of God. As Lorraine Potter-Cooper reminds us, his “Christian faith was the power source for his life’s work and his legacy.”(In Honor of Martin Luther King Day”, Jan. 11)

Dr. King also had faith in the promise of America. Although not fully realized, he believed in our nation's creed, enunciated in the Declaration of Independence, that “all men are created equal.”

Over the past sixty years, inspired by Dr. King, great strides have been made towards improving race relations in our country. Sadly, King’s legacy and his dream of a color-blind society are now being undermined by the proponents of race-based policies such as diversity, equity, and inclusion(DEI).

DEI is a refutation of King’s fervent hope that one day his children, and, for that matter, all children, would be judged “not by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character.”

DEI is a perversion of Dr. King’s dream. The DEI agenda advocates for discrimination based on race.

In honor of Dr. King’s memory, isn’t it time we did away with this dreadfully divisive DEI ideology?
