Dolores J. Gibbs (Cedrone) 91, passed into the loving arms of Our Savior and Lord, Jesus Christ, on October 22, 2023, at 3:00 pm, the holy hour of mercy.

Born on January 14, 1932, she was a daughter of Antonio and Maria Cedrone and baby sister of the late Theresa Califano, Anna Papitto, Renato Cedrone, Gilda Napolitano, and Enrico Cedrone.

She was the beloved wife of Horace L. Gibbs and the late Nicholas Gualtieri. She is survived by her loving daughters, Diane Gualtieri, Carol Gualtieri, and Maureen Mitchell and many nieces, nephews, godchildren, family and friends. She has two precious grandchildren, Joshua Mitchell and Maggie Mitchell, and her adoring dog, Penny.

Our beautiful mom was always smiling and loving and kind to everyone. She was educated by her cherished Religious Sisters of Mercy and attended Holy Ghost School and St. Xavier’s Academy, Class of 1950. She was a Coloratura Soprano Opera singer and won second place in the Regional Metropolitan Opera Auditions. She had the lead role in the opera, ‘Martha’, when she was 7 months pregnant with Carol! She chose family life instead of a career, but she was always singing in church, at weddings, anniversaries, and many events.

Our beloved mom was a devout Catholic woman. She always filled our home with music, love, laughter, faith, food, and joy. She was a parishioner of St. Kevin’s Catholic Church and volunteered for the Renew program, taught CCD, sang in the choir, and stood for pro-life causes. There was even a time when she landed in jail! She was praying her rosary too close to an abortion clinic, now, I believe, turned into a daycare center!

In 1993 she took her final vows and became a member of the Third Order of Carmelite nuns in Barrington, RI. She always spoke so highly of our Catholic faith and the love of God, Blessed Mother Mary, and all the angels and saints. She was especially devoted to St. Therese, the Little Flower. But most importantly, she lived and loved her faith and passed it along.

Her services will be held on Saturday October 28, 2023, at 8:30 a.m. from the Barrett & Cotter Funeral Home, 1328 Warwick Avenue, Spring Green, Warwick followed by a Concelebrated Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Kevins Church, 333 Sandy Lane, Warwick. Burial was be in St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston. The visitation will be be held Friday October 27, 2023, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Donations in memory of Dolores are graciously accepted to support the St. Mary Academy Bay View Performing Arts Program, 3070 Pawtucket Avenue, Riverside, RI 02915.
