Traditionally the Warwick Rotary Club has provided 100 baskets of food to needy families at Christmastime and at one time even delivered them to people’s homes. As Neighbors Helping Neighbors evolved, a coordinated effort between the city’s human services division and Westbay Community Action, a centralized system was developed. This year, when club member Dan Scanlon Jr. learned some organizations had dropped out of the program, he doubled donations to 200 boxes. Club members assembled Saturday at 8 a.m. at the Cooper Building on Sandy Lane where they filled boxes with the fixings for a Christmas meal. Gift cards to Dave’s Fresh Marketplace were also provided. Once packed, club members loaded up their cards and headed to Westbay Community Action on Jefferson Boulevard, where early arrivals were waiting for them. (Warwick Beacon photos)
