Mary E. Douglas, 85, of North Kingstown, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Friday, November 10, 2023, at the Philip Hulitar Hospice Center in Providence.  She was the beloved wife of the late William R. Douglas.

Born in Providence, she was the daughter of the late Benjamin and Henrietta (Capasso) Esposito.

Mary graduated as a Registered Nurse from the Rhode Island Hospital School of Nursing.  Following her career in nursing, she went on to continue helping people for over 35 years as an Office Manager at Pawtuxet Memorial Park Cemetery in Warwick.

Family and friends were important to Mary, she loved spending as much time with them as she could, especially hosting gatherings, many of which became annual events!

Mary was a HUGE sports fan, and loved following and watching the Boston Red Sox, Boston Bruins, and the New England Patriots.  One of Mary’s greatest sports memories was attending the clinching game of the 2013 World Series where the Red Sox won at Fenway Park for the first time since 1918 – what a celebration!

Mary was always proud of the fact that she was the first female Goal Judge for Rhode Island Schoolboy Hockey.  She was a member of the American Bridge Association where she achieved Life Master status, she was a member of the RI Cemetery Association and was the President of the “Garlic Girls Club”.

She is survived by a daughter, Robin P. Douglas and her husband Paul Higgins of Warwick; two sons, William R. Douglas, Jr. of Warwick and Stephen P. Douglas of North Kingstown; two granddaughters, Rachel M. Douglas of Sommerville, MA and Mia S. Douglas of North Providence; a grandson Colin Higgins and 2 great grandsons Logan and Declan Higgins;  a sister, Ann Kissik and her husband John of Cumberland; a brother, John Esposito of Providence; her surrogate daughter Valerie Failla. Mary was very close to all of her nieces and nephews, and grand nieces and nephews, and acted as a cheering section for all their antics and accomplishments.  She was a sister of the late William Esposito.

The family would like to express their deep appreciation to the nurses and staff of Hope Hospice and Philip Hulitar Hospice Center.

Her Funeral will be held on Wednesday, November 15, 2023, at 9:30 a.m. from the Barrett & Cotter Funeral Home, 1328 Warwick Avenue, Spring Green, Warwick, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. in St. Peter’s Church, 350 Fair St., Warwick.  Interment will follow in Pawtuxet Memorial Park, Warwick.  Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Barrett & Cotter Funeral Home.  In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory to RI Community Food Bank or Hope Hospice would be appreciated.  Information and condolences at barrettandcotter.com
