With a love for the mental and physical challenges it represents, a group of friends spent part of their Sunday visiting their favorite spots for skateboarding. After stopping for a few runs at the skateboard park in Oakland Beach they visited Gorton Junior High for a run at the stairs stepping down to the sidewalk. As a precaution, one of the group stationed himself on the south side of Draper Avenue where he could get a clear view of traffic from both directions. Another in the group, Andre Torres, brought along his video camera. He’s making a short video of skateboard locations. There was consensus that the Oakland Beach park needs attention as cracks are opening between prefab elements of the park. The park at Mickey Stevens was deemed in even worse shape by Matt Surkont. Here, Peter Gesualdo flies before making a less than comfortable landing. Matt would like to see a skateboard park at Rocky Point.

How about the Beacon do a story about kids playing in the street and dodging cars? It is great fun and should be highlighted. Showing pictures of kids darting in and out of traffic would be rad!!
