Folcarelli DAV Oldies Dinner Dance set to hop

It’s being billed as an “Oldies Dinner Dance” with a chance to win a huge basket that will require a couple of strong men to deliver it once the drawing is held on Saturday, Aug. 5.

However the event – which is being sponsored and coordinated by the Giovanni Folcarelli Chapter 1 of the Disabled American Veterans – will have reaching results once all the rock ‘n roll music has been played and people have enjoyed a delicious dinner prepared and served by the friendly folks of Ralph’s Catering.

Folcarelli Chapter 1 Commander John “Jack” Hill said, “We are holding this special social event to raise money for disabled and homeless veterans.”

Hill, who was joined by Ray Denisewich, Adjutant-Treasurer of the Folcarelli Chapter 1 that’s based inside the Kelley-Gazzerro VFW Post located at 1418 Plainfield Pike on the Cranston-Johnston line, said, “We assisted a large number of veterans and their families last year and this year we want to ensure that we have the financial ability to assist more in the future.”

Hill announced that tickets are priced at $30 person and includes the always-super buffet that Ralph’s Catering is known for as well as special music by Tony Weaver.

“Tony is and has been a great friend of all veterans and their families,” Hill said. “We can’t thank him enough for all his fine work and music. He’s also helping our sole purpose and honored mission to assist all veterans and their families, particularly in their time of need.”

Hill also announced that if families choose to bring their children to the fund-raiser, they will be admitted free.

Denisewich, who has often been known as a work-horse for any and all DAV projects, programs and fund-raisers, said, “We invite people to come and join us to support this noble cause; raising money that will assist and help homeless and disabled veterans who have so proudly served out nation. And, as usual, the food from Ralph’s will be exceptional.”

Tickets may be purchased at the Kelley-Gazzerro VFW Post 2812 or by calling 942-9500.

As for the huge basket, which is on display at the VFW Post and fills an over-sized washtub, tickets are only $1 each or six for just $5. The drawing will be held at the Aug. 5 Dinner Dance.

The DAV is a leading non-profit Veterans Service organization with 1.3-million members located in 1300 chapters throughout the country. The Giovanni Folcarelli Chapter 1 has over 458 members and meets at 3 p.m. on the third Wednesday of each month at the Kelley-Gazzerro VFW Post 2812 except July.
