Graduation season looms in Warwick

Posted

With summer rapidly approaching, schools in Warwick and beyond are getting ready to wrap up the 2023-24 academic year and wish graduates well.

For both of Warwick’s high schools, Kingston will be the graduation destination, with the Ryan Center on the University of Rhode Island’s campus serving as the host for them.

Both Pilgrim and Toll Gate High Schools will be holding their graduation on June 12. Toll Gate will go first, with their graduation beginning at noon, and Pilgrim is scheduled to have their graduation start at 4 p.m.

The last day of school for seniors will be on June 4 at Toll Gate, and Pilgrim seniors will officially wrap up two days later.

Bishop Hendricken High School’s 63rd annual graduation will be held at the Cathedral of Saints Peter and Paul in Providence, and will begin at 5 p.m.

Colleges continue commencing

College commencement season is already underway, with the New England Institute of Technology having held their commencement on May 5 at the Amica Mutual Pavilion.

The AMP is also going to host the Community College of Rhode Island’s 59th commencement ceremony on May 16 at 4 p.m.

Rhode Island College’s Baccalaureate Degree Commencement Ceremony will be in the AMP as well, with the ceremony beginning at 10 a.m. on May 11.

RIC is the only of the state’s three public institutions to have a traditional commencement speaker. Gov. Dan McKee will be giving this year’s address.

URI’s commencement ceremony will look drastically different from previous years, as it will take place over the course of multiple days- from May 17 through May 19.

Each ceremony will also be held inside the Ryan Center- a difference from previous years, when the main commencement ceremony was held on the University’s quad.

“With all ceremonies occurring in the Ryan Center, participants and guests will no longer be exposed to unpredictable or extreme weather conditions,” URI said in a January statement announcing the change. “The venue also offers a more welcoming environment for people with disabilities, and provides easier access to restrooms and food options.”

May 17 will include the commencement ceremonies for the College of Business and College of Pharmacy, while ceremonies for the College of Arts and Sciences, College of Nursing and College of Engineering will occur on May 18. The final day will see ceremonies for the College of Health Sciences, the Alan Shawn Feinstein College of Education, the College of the Environment and Life Sciences and the Graduate School of Oceanography.
