Bishop Hendricken High School honoring local veterans and their service this month..

Last Wednesday the nameplate of David Vicario was dedicated to the school’s wall for Rhode Islanders who served in Vietnam

Vicario was a Providence native who was wounded in action in December of 1968. He would later die from those injuries on Nov. 17, 1996.

The event’s keynote speaker was Justice Francis X. Flaherty, a Hendricken alum and Vietnam War veteran. Flaherty also served as the keynote speaker for a local event with the American Veterans Traveling Tribute’s (AVTT) Traveling Vietnam Wall, which spent four days in Warwick this past September.

On Nov. 11, Bishop Hendricken, alongside Iggy’s Boardwalk, will host their annual Veterans Day Breakfast. All veterans and active-duty military members, as well as their families, will eat for free, and can choose whether they’d like to be served at 8:30 or 9:30.

The event will be attended by Bishop Hendricken President Robert Marciano, Mayor Frank Picozzi, Senator Jack Reed and Rhode Island Public Transit Authority CEO Scott Avedisian. Those wishing to RSVP can contact Gina Dooley at gina.a.dooley@warwickri.gov or Daniel Friel at dfriel@hendricken.com.

On Nov. 15, Bishop Hendricken will host a prayer service at 1 p.m. within the school’s War Memorial Prayer Garden in honor of Veterans Day. Remarks will be given by Brigadier General Thomas Hannon, the Chief of Staff for the Rhode Island National Guard.
