John Rappa knows his mushrooms, but never has he found one quite as large as he did last week. He stopped into the Beacon to show us this 30-pound “chicken of the sea” found on a rotting tree trunk. After cleaning it, he boiled the meat, cut it into slices and packaged it in plastic bags that he shared with his sisters, Pauline and Marie. John plans to serve his with sausage. As for where he found such a treasure, all John would reveal is that it’s someplace in Warwick. (Warwick Beacon photo)
