Man faces new larceny charge

A man arrested last year in connection with a string of local larcenies is facing new charges, with more likely to come.

Frederick W. Hosmer, 44, of 60A Caldwell Road in Greenville, is charged with misdemeanor counts of larceny under $1,500 and injuring or tampering with vehicles.

Patrolman Michael Protano responded to the parking lot of Planet Fitness at 1493 Hartford Ave. on July 20 for a report of a vehicle break-in. The reporting party told the officer when she exited the gym that day she found her rear passenger side mirror smashed in, and discovered a purse containing her driver’s license, credit card, debit card, and $50 in cash was missing.

A check revealed the stolen credit card had been used for transactions at two establishments in Providence. A manager at one of the locations, Finish Line in the Providence Place Mall, was able to provide a description of the suspect.

Hosmer was identified as the suspect, and at approximately 3 p.m. on July 27 he was tracked to an Adelaide Avenue address in Providence. According to the narrative report of Detective Thomas Dwyer, he was found hiding in the building’s attic, and he surrendered after more than an hour.

Maj. Frank Levesque, commander of the Johnston Police Department’s Investigative Division, praised the “great teamwork” between detectives in Johnston, Providence, and Smithfield on the case. He specifically credited Dwyer for his efforts.

“We worked collaboratively,” he said.

Levesque said other charges are pending in Johnston and the other jurisdictions.

Hosmer was arrested in October 2015 on larceny charges in connection with several thefts in Johnston.

Police: Man fired blank rounds inside apartment

A man is facing charges after allegedly firing several blank rounds inside his Cranston apartment last week.

Kevin M. Bushee, 46, of 57 Garden Drive, is charged with firing in a compact area, disorderly conduct, and resisting arrest. He was arraigned last week.

Police responded to the scene at approximately 9 p.m. on Aug. 2 following reports of shots fired. Bushee reportedly attempted to flee out the rear entrance of the apartment as officers arrived, and a brief struggle occurred before he was taken into custody.

Cranston Chief of Police Col. Michael Winquist told the media that Bushee appeared to have been under the influence of drugs or alcohol. He also praised responding officers for their handling of the situation.

This turd Hosmer is an opportunistic criminal- he only steals the easy stuff; stop making it easy for him by leaving your valuables in the open, or putting them in the trunk when you arrive at your destination. Take things with you, or put them in the trunk BEFORE you get where you're going so that they don't observe you doing it.

Sometimes they get caught in the act, but not often enough- nothing like a few "injuries incident to detaining the perpetrator" to give him something to think about.
