The academic world for the 37 kindergarteners at Sarah Dyer Barnes elementary school, and the 183 students who’ve become best friends at the Early Childhood Center, will soon get a whole lot bigger.
Last week, all of the Johnston kindergarteners celebrated their successful year with diploma ceremonies marking their transition to first grade. Hundreds of family members and friends attended events hosted at both of the schools.
The festivities were a reflection of the students’ year together and the fun they’ve had learning together. Through speeches given by ECC Principal Julie-anne Zarrella and Barnes principal Jill Souza, along with video presentations detailing all the events the children participated in, attendees were given a virtual tour of today’s life in kindergarten.
From their first day in school, to art exhibits, dress up days, holidays, along with progress made utilizing technology, computer programs, and academic projects, each event highlighted just how far students have come and how much they had learned. Parents, teachers, and administrators all marveled at how fast time had passed with the students, which seemed to grow both mentally and physically in a blink of an eye.
With a strong academic foundation provided by their teachers and school, the students now look forward to new adventures and opportunities as they look towards first grade next year.
A poem for Kindergartners
By ECC Principal Julie-anne Zarrella
What a year this has been
Blended Learning and all
Thanks to teachers and parents
We have all had a ball!
They have learned all their letters,
Numbers and sight words.
They’ve mastered the Chromebooks--
So onwards and upwards!!
We’ve had so many fun memories--
From our Scarecrow Parade and the Zoo
Polar Express, Art Night and Field Day--
And that’s to just name a few!
Students’ efforts filled us with pride
We’ve done all that we could do.
What we’ve accomplished TOGETHER
Will help these young learners through.
They are all off to great places!
Joy and pride fill our hearts.
We’ve given each one what they’ve needed;
As Kindergarten is where it starts!
