Langevin statement on United States air strikes in Syria

Posted

Congressman Jim Langevin (D-RI) issued the following statement through a press release after the United States air strike in Syria Thursday evening:

"I believe the response taken tonight by the United States in launching an air strike in Syria following the morally reprehensible war crimes committed by Bashar al-Assad when he deployed chemical weapons, killing innocent children and civilians, is justifiable, and I support this decision.”

“Moving forward, the President must consult with Congress to determine how the United States will deal with Assad’s regime and determine what our strategic objectives will be. No nation has the right to use chemical weapons against innocent civilians and the world must speak with one voice condemning the actions of President Assad.”

Reading this statement I have (2) questions: First, if President Trump went to Congress and asked for support to bomb Syria's airfield, would Congressman Langevin support this even though he has fought tooth and nail against everything Trump has said or done? Next, when moving forward if Trump does go to Congress as Congressman Langevin states, would the Democrats support anything he asks for? Or, would it be an ongoing battle for the next 4 years? REMEMBER, ex-president Obama told us, all Americans that Syria no longer has chemical weapons, what happened in only 3 months? Someone is not telling the truth and it appears this was the "norm" in the past, still on-going? Just sayin...
