To the Editor:
John Howell’s recent story about Gaspee Days brought back pleasant memories to me.
But they were not about the famous history. As a teenager I would walk from home in Warwick Downs to meet my friend, Nancy Shaw. We would head for Gaspee, where we would meet the tall, good-looking Danny Walker, who would be strumming his guitar. His lovely girlfriend, Edna Spencer, would lead us in singing popular songs. Also present were Willard Page, from Pawtucket, the cousins, Joe Hutchinson and Octave Parenteau, from Woonsocket.
A few years later Octave was my escort to my senior prom. We never became romantic, but remained food friends. More years passed and Nancy married the love of her life, Willard Page.
I graduated from Aldrich High School in June 1940 and reported for active duty in the U.S. Coast Guard on May 18, 1943.

Dear Rosetta,
That was a beautiful story. God bless you. You graduated high school 11 years before I was born, yet your memory is better than mine.
Thank you for your service in WW2 and since then.
Stay well.
Rick
