She won’t float, but she’ll be sailing

There wasn’t much time, but that didn’t stop a group from St. Timothy Church from starting construction Monday on a float for this Saturday’s Gaspee Days parade. Lending impetus to the project of building the cutout of a sailboat was the loan of a wagon and a truck to pull it from Confreda Farms. Father Andrew Messina, pastor, has invited members from St. Rita, St. Peter and other parishes to ride on the float with the theme of “Faith, freedom and country.” St. Timothy parishioner Ray Raiche, a veteran of the battle for Iwo Jima, is expected to ride the float. Pictured with Father Andrew are Arthur McGirr and Norman Levasseur. (Warwick Beacon photo)
