Paul H. Strauss, age 69, of Welfare Avenue, Warwick, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 29, 2017, at the Philip Hulitar Hospice Center in Providence. He was the husband of Willough M. (Sauer) Strauss.

Born in Auburn, NY, the son of the late Joseph and Irene (Forkey) Strauss, he lived in East Greenwich before moving to Warwick 14 years ago. He served as a United States Navy Seabee for 5 years at Quonset Point and in Guam. Paul was employed at Organogenesis in Canton, MA for several years before retiring due to illness in July 2015. Paul was a Eucharistic Minister at the altar and to the sick at St. Francis DeSales Parish in North Kingstown for many years, and at St. William Parish in Warwick until his illness. He also had a beautiful baritone voice and sang in the choir at both churches until the onset of cancer left him unable to sing. He also sang in the Gospel Group “For Heaven’s Sake,” which disbanded several years ago. He loved classical music, gospel music and jazz, and enjoyed building model trains.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, William Strauss and his wife Kim, of Brookhaven, GA; a daughter, Claire-Marie Strauss of Hyannis, MA; and three grandchildren, Dylan, Cory and Erin. He was the brother of the late Margaret Day.

His family is most grateful to Hope Hospice & Palliative Care RI for their home care, and the care he received at the Philip Hulitar Center in Providence.

His funeral was held on Monday, December 4, from the Barrett & Cotter Funeral Home, 1328 Warwick Avenue, Spring Green, Warwick, with a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Timothy Church, 1799 Warwick Avenue, Warwick. Burial with military honors was in the Rhode Island Veterans Cemetery, Exeter.
