Pilgrim boys soccer closed the regular season with a 10-1 trouncing of the Blackstone Valley Prep Mayoral Academy Pride during a senior night - Pink Out on Thursday, in what was the last game of the Pats regular season.

“They were high,” Pilgrim head coach Bill Carroll said. “They were up for tonight’s game because it was senior night. And for some reason it just cranks them up. And I was quite happy with the fact that I put two lines out, and the second line will be next year’s team, and they acquitted themselves quite well too. But the seniors, they’re strong. We’re going to sadly miss them next year, but we’ve got some more players coming up so that’s it.”

The Pats offense was topped by Aaron Ramos and Danny Peixinho, two seniors, who scored three goals apiece.

The other four tallies came from Paolo Frias, a senior, Zach DaSilva, a sophomore, plus Ryan Annunziata and Declan Flaherty, both freshmen who each scored the first goal of their high school careers.

Setting up the scores was Gio Andrade, who totaled two assists, Luke Gibeau, Travis Reiss, Josh Delaroca, and Ken Rix, who had one assist apiece.

Pats senior Steve Laurent stopped six shots in net while Xavier Mendez, a junior, made nine saves for the Pride.

Pilgrim’s Peixinho eclipsed 200 career points after his three goals on Thursday and it marks the second straight season that the senior has led the state in both scoring and total points. Peixinho finishes his senior regular season with 32 goals and 14 assists, which is good for 78 points.

“I’ve just been working hard my whole life playing soccer and it feels good to be able to do that, obviously,” Peixinho said. “And to have kids like this helping me out the whole way is just great.”

Pilgrim improves to 12-2-1 with the win and will be a top-four seed when it enters the postseason later this week.

Peixinho and Ramos have helped carry the offense the entire season and Carroll hopes they can continue to do just that, along with fellow seniors Collin Murphy and Paulo Frias.

“That foursome is lethal,” Carroll said. “All four of them, they just come pounding down on you. They’re all skill players and very apt. They can just play the game and that’s it. And the rest are learning from them and if we move the ball quickly, we’re good.”

But Carroll has seen his team at both its best and its worst this season and he’s hoping for the former come playoffs.

“We can be dominant or just bad,” Carroll said. “Flat bad. And we’ve had a couple of games where we’ve been bad, and we’ve lost them. . . there’s people to punish you here. I mean, half the league is weak, half the league is strong, and that strong part, they can punish you on any given day, which we got proved to by two teams.”

Peixinho, though, is confident the Pats have what it takes to repeat as DIII champions.

“I think we definitely can,” Peixinho said. “It’s going to be hard, but we all work hard, so I think we can do it.”
