East vs. West showdown as the Warwick Police Department takes on the East Providence Police in the “Battle for the Bay” charity hockey game! All proceeds support RI Special Hockey. Let’s pack the stands Warwick!!!! March 15th at Thayer Ice Arena. Doors open at 6:30, and the puck drops at 7:30. Don’t miss out on this action-packed event for a great cause! This is just a little over a week away. This is going to a fun night for a good cause that you won’t want to miss. WPD against the fine officers of the East Providence Police Department. Bob DaSilva, East Providence Mayor, and Mayor Picozzi have a real competition going on and plan on making a special wager. They’ll both be in attendance. The Mayor would like to see Thayer packed to the rafters. Let’s show our WPD that we back them and show East Providence what a united community we are. Although we’ll be rooting for our guys, we’ll also show strong support for the members of the EPPD. Bob DaSilva, East Providence Mayor and Mayor Picozzi have bet dinner on this game. EPPD wins and the Mayor has to travel to East Bay to buy, and WHEN WPD wins May DeSilva comes and spends his money in Warwick!

It was an absolute pleasure for the Mayor to read to a 1st and 3rd grade class today at Oakland Beach Elementary School. He went there as a child, and it brought back so many great memories. Thank you for having the Mayor and thank you to the students who asked some really great questions!  In addition, Mayor Picozzi also stopped by Warwick Neck Elementary School for their career day yesterday. The Mayor found it amazing to see the students all dressed up, and even more amazing to sit and talk to them about his profession as being Mayor! In addition, he got to also meet Zachary Lambert who someday wants the Mayor’s job! Warwick Neck School is near and dear to Mayor Picozzi’s heart. He attended the school for fifth and sixth grade and both of his daughters attended K-6th grade there.

This is OUTSTANDING, Picozzi posted of Warwick Police work leading to the arrest of two suspects charged with scamming the elderly.  Ciminals that scam money from senior citizens are the lowest of the low. We as a city are so proud of our police department!!!

It was an absolute honor for the Mayor this morning to present two of the city’s educators with citations for their quick actions that saved the lives of two students. Lauren Cobb, a teacher assistant at Warwick Early Learning Center, immediately jumped into action this week and performed the Heimlich maneuver on a student. Tracy Peasley, a 3rd grade teacher at Cedar Hill, also performed the Heimlich maneuver on a student who was choking on a celery stick. It’s safe to say these two women are heroes!Z

There was a fire on Brentwood Ave a short time ago. The fire was put down, all the occupants made it out along with their pets and there were no injuries. An Amazon delivery driver saw the flames and alerted the family. Kudos to him. Mayor Picozzi spent some time with the family on scene and they’re doing well and have a place to stay. The Red Cross will be assisting them. As always, strong work by the WFD.

Because of the incredible amount of rain that Warwick has gotten over the past couple of months, many people’s basements are leaking. The Water Department has been inundated with calls by residents thinking that their water pipes are leaking or that something is wrong. There isn’t. The ground is very, very wet and its causing many basements to leak. The Mayor has heard from many residents that their basements had never leaked before. The Mayor’s own basement has been leaking for several days after each rainstorm, and the sump pump is running virtually nonstop. This won’t get better until there is a lengthy period of dry weather. If your basement gets flooded, the Warwick Fire Department will pump it out for you if they can.
