The Warwick Police Department (WPD) conducted a Drunk Driving Enforcement Task Force on Saint Patrick’s Day, March 17. This exercise was focused on reducing incidents caused by drunk driving.
The WPD reported it made 73 traffic stops on St. Patrick’s Day. Of these 11 were speeding violations, seven laned roadway violations, one person was pulled over for running through a stop sign, and one person was given a ticket for improper presentation of their license plate.
There were also a total of seven arrests, two for driving on a suspended license and five suspected DUI arrests. All of these arrests were chemical test refusals and four of the five were processed through the Breath Alcohol Testing Mobile Unit (B.A.T Mobile), according to John Curley of the traffic division.
Eight residents also used the Safe Rides Program. Under the program, residents could call for a free ride home anywhere within the city from 6 p.m. to midnight on Saint Patrick’s Day if they felt they had too much to drink.
