The Boys & Girls Clubs of Warwick (BGCW) is running another fun-filled summer camp program for children ages 6 to 13. And, as usual, it is filled to capacity. With 150 kids and 25 counselors, the camp has a waiting list of 20.

The day camp runs from June 26 through September 1, from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. It has been located for the last 20 years at the Masonic Youth Center in Buttonwoods – 74 acres on Narragansett Bay with swimming pool, fields, shelter and playground.

Extended care and lunch are included free of charge. The BGCW camp provides kids with an array of fun activities and is convenient for local families, so each week is already full. The cost is $135 a week.

To help kick-off the first week, Neighborhood Health Plan of Rhode Island sent volunteers to hand out supplies kids can use all summer long. “These draw-string backpacks are perfect for summer camp, and Neighborhood is thrilled to be able to share them with Boys and Girls Clubs’ members around the state,” said Brenda Whittle, Neighborhood’s Chief Marketing Officer. “Each backpack also contains a few small items, like sunscreen and sunglasses. We’ve heard from our Boys and Girls Clubs partners that parents who are struggling financially might not be able to send their kids to summer camp with the necessary supplies, so we’re happy to help out. Neighborhood Health Plan of Rhode Island has always been a champion of our state’s children, and we are proud to continue those efforts, especially when we can help keep kids healthy, safe, and active.”

“We are so pleased that Neighborhood Health is contributing to helping our camp kids,” said BGCW executive director Lara D’Antuono. “Because the community and businesses contribute support in so many ways, they enable us to give children the exceptional support, opportunities and experiences they need to live, healthier, more enriched lives.”
