Riding for a cause

Warwick Mayor Scott Avedisian rides a trike in front of a nature vista painted by children at Westbay’s Children’s Center at a recent fundraiser to rebuild the Children’s Center’s school yard, which was destroyed by Tropical Storm Irene in 2011. Parents of children at Westbay’s Children Center sponsored a recent pasta supper that raised $2,000 from families and local businesses for a planned natural habitat schoolyard that will include butterfly and hummingbird pavilions, hardy, indigenous plants and trees for nature-inspired playtime. Groundbreaking for the schoolyard, designed by a landscape architect, is planned for early summer. The fundraiser dinner, catered by Carrabba’s Italian Grill, was held at Warwick’s Pilgrim Senior Center. Volunteer DJ Christopher Mederios played great music that had people dancing all night.
