Reading Week
Robertson Reads a slam dunk
READING WITH THE MAYOR: Mayor Scott Avedisian stopped by Holliman school last Wednesday in honor of Reading Week, which is this week. Students in Mrs. Kennett and Ms. Marcaccio’s first grade classes sat in rapt attention as Avedisian read A Bad Case of Stripes and Sylvester and the Magic Pebble.

READING WITH A RUNNER: Mikaila Amerantes reads to kindergarteners Max Andersen, Alisabeth Roy, Owen Mahon and Kingston Dandy in Maryann Costello’s classroom.

CLASS PICTURE: The athletes took a group shot with Fuller’s class, then headed out into other classrooms.

IF THEY WERE PRESIDENT: Rep. Camille Vella Wilkinson visited the second grade class of Hoxsie teacher Stacy Kennefick Friday as part of reading week across the state. Vella Wilkinson read the book “If I Were President.” But the representative did much more than read. She quizzed the students on a variety of subjects, surprised to find their breadth of knowledge when it came to identifying past presidents as well as Rhode Island elected officials, including Gov. Gina Raimondo. Vella Wilkinson reads to the class as an attentive group of students, Jessel Coutu, Joshua Martini and Jahliyah Brown, make ovals in response to her question, “What is the shape of the oval office?” Looking on is Principal Gary McCoombs.

It's good of the mayor that he visited Holliman school in honor of Reading Week and for the obvious photo op. It would be even better if he were to show up at one School Committee meeting or one City Council meeting.
Maybe the mayor can read a book to the kids about a coward who sits in a chair and steals the children's future by bankrupting the city that they live in for personal gain. Then, Richard Corrente can read chapter 2, how a wanna be politician doesnt pay his fair share, is broke and insolvent, but has all the fiscal answers.
