Veteran residents of American Assisted Living were recognized in a ceremony held Friday at the facility on Toll Gate Road. Prior to the event, Sgt. Rebecca Tarango of the Rhode Island National Guard, who was deployed to Iraq, had the opportunity to talk with some of the veterans. Those gathered were (from left ) Army veteran Ernest Tesdat, Navy veteran Edward Decamp, who served during the Korean War as well as a deployment to Antarctica, Dennis Fredella, who served in the Navy in the Pacific during World War II, World War II Navy veteran Russell Johnston, Army veteran Richard Murphy and Marine Corps veteran Henry Petrarca.
