Off to a good start

Giving recent high school graduates a jump on continuing their educations, the Rotary Club of Warwick awarded $2,500 scholarships to three college-bound students at their June 20 meeting. The club solicited scholarship applicants from Pilgrim, Toll Gate and Hendricken High Schools and then blindly evaluated them on the basis of need and their career plans. It turned out all three winners are Toll Gate graduates. Congratulating them are club president Sarah Channing and chair of the club scholarship committee, Randy Shatz. From left the recipients are Alyssa Silvestre, who will be attending Rhode Island College and strives to be a math teacher; Allaire Allen, who wants to be an airplane pilot and will attend Bridgewater State University; and Elizabeth Vecchio, who aims to be a physical therapist and will attend Franklin Pierce University.
