Parents, teachers and administrators teamed up at Wyman Elementary on Monday to officially open up the school's annual read-a-thon event, which encourages students to read often and earn points and donation dollars from sponsors based on how much they read.
Principal Ron Celio said it was important to let the parents, who help organize the month-long event through a subcommittee of the PTA, think of exciting themes to get the kids enthusiastic about it.
"The parents, teachers and the community all come together to help make learning more fun for the kids," Celio said. "It's amazing what can happen when you come together as one community."
